Concrete Floor Grinding at Flood Damaged Property

Widnes
Spain Building and Maintenance

The Project Brief

We were asked to carry out concrete grinding works at a flood damaged residential property in Widnes for Spain Building and Maintenance. The requirement was to grind approximately 25 square metres of existing concrete floor due to moisture present within the slab.

The surface needed to be properly prepared so it could be sealed and waterproofed as part of the property’s reinstatement works. Achieving the correct surface finish was essential to ensure the new treatment would bond effectively and perform as intended.

The Process

Our team attended the site with specialist concrete grinding equipment suitable for floor preparation works. Before starting, the area was assessed to confirm the extent of the surface that required grinding and to ensure the correct approach was taken.

We carried out the grinding process across the full 25 square metre area, working methodically to remove the affected surface layer and open up the concrete. This allowed any contaminants and weak material caused by moisture exposure to be taken away, leaving a consistent substrate.

Throughout the process, control was maintained to achieve an even finish across the entire floor area. Dust was managed as part of the operation to keep the working environment clean and safe.

Why Concrete Grinding is Effective for Moisture-Affected Slabs

Concrete grinding is a reliable method for preparing floors that have been affected by moisture. By removing the top layer of the slab, the process exposes clean, solid concrete that is suitable for further treatment.

This is particularly important when a surface needs to be sealed or waterproofed, as coatings and membranes rely on proper adhesion to perform effectively. Grinding also helps to create a consistent surface profile, which improves the bond between the concrete and the applied system.

In situations like flood damage, where the integrity of the surface may be compromised, grinding provides a controlled and efficient way to restore the floor and prepare it for the next stage of work.

A Clean Surface Ready for Waterproofing

The full 25 square metres of concrete was ground as required, leaving a clean, even surface ready to be sealed and waterproofed. The area was left in a suitable condition for the next phase of the project, allowing Spain Building and Maintenance to proceed without delay.
