We were asked to carry out diamond core drilling works at an aluminium recycling plant in Wythenshaw for a repeat client, Efficient Cool Heat. The requirement was to drill two 275mm diameter holes through a 300mm thick brick wall to allow for the installation of intake and extract ductwork.
The position and size of the openings needed to be accurate to ensure the ductwork could be installed correctly. As the work was being carried out within an operational industrial environment, it was also important that the drilling process was controlled and disruption was kept to a minimum.
Our team attended the site with specialist diamond core drilling equipment suitable for brickwork of this thickness. Before starting, we carefully marked out both hole positions in line with the client’s requirements, ensuring correct spacing and alignment for the ductwork.
Core drilling through 300mm of brickwork requires a stable and controlled approach to keep accuracy from entry to exit. The drilling setup was secured in place to provide stability throughout the process. Using diamond core barrels, we worked steadily through the brick wall, maintaining control to achieve a clean and consistent cut.
Water was used during drilling to help control dust and keep the process running smoothly, while also maintaining a clean working area within the plant.

Diamond core drilling is well suited for creating openings for intake and extract ductwork. It allows holes to be formed to an exact diameter, which is important for ensuring ducting fits correctly and performs as intended.
The process produces clean, circular openings with minimal disruption to the surrounding structure. This helps maintain the integrity of the wall while providing a straightforward route for ventilation systems to be installed.
Accurate core drilling also reduces the need for additional repairs, allowing follow-on trades to carry out their work efficiently.
Both 275mm core holes were completed to specification, providing clean and accurately positioned openings for the intake and extract ductwork.
Efficient Cool Heat were able to proceed with their installation without delay, supported by a smooth and well-managed drilling process.
We regularly support contractors with diamond core drilling for ventilation, ductwork, and service installations across a range of industrial and commercial environments. From single openings to larger-scale projects, our approach is always focused on accuracy, control, and delivering reliable results on site.
