Dry Diamond Drilling with Acrow Prop Setup in Salford

Greyfriars Court, Salford
PEAK

The Project Brief

We were asked to carry out diamond drilling works at Greyfriars Court in Salford, Manchester, working on behalf of our client PEAK.

The requirement was to carry out core drilling whilst avoiding the need to bolt the drilling rig into the concrete floor, as this would have created unnecessary holes within the structure. The work also needed to be completed in a clean and controlled manner, with careful consideration given to dust and overall site conditions.

The Process

Our team attended the site using a dry drilling setup, along with an Acrow prop system to secure the rig in place. This allowed us to fix the rig stand between the floor and ceiling, providing a stable drilling position without the need for mechanical fixings into the concrete.

By avoiding bolting down, we were able to carry out the work without causing additional damage to the slab. The setup provided a secure and efficient solution, allowing us to move between drilling locations as required.

We used Weka dry drilling motors and core drilling bits, along with a vacuum system to collect dust at the source during drilling. This ensured the process remained controlled throughout, with dust effectively managed as the work progressed.

Why Dry Drilling is Effective for This Type of Work

Dry drilling is well suited to environments where cleanliness and control are essential. By removing the need for water, the process avoids slurry and helps keep the working area clean and manageable.

When combined with a vacuum system, dust is collected during drilling, reducing airborne particles and supporting a safer working environment. This makes dry drilling a practical option for internal works where maintaining site conditions is important.

The use of an Acrow prop setup also removes the need for drilling by fixing holes into the structure, helping to preserve the integrity of the concrete whilst still providing a stable and secure drilling position.

A Clean and Controlled Result

All drilling works were completed using the dry drilling method, with dust effectively managed throughout the process. The use of the Acrow prop system allowed the rig to be secured without the need for additional fixings, leaving the concrete slab unaffected.

The result was a clean and controlled operation, allowing our client PEAK to continue with the next stage of the project without the need for further remedial work.
