We recently got the chance to work with a company called Arteria on a really interesting project in Liverpool's St Paul's Square.
They needed some specialist help with floor sawing and removing concrete inside an office building. The plan was to create a 5-meter-long, 700mm-wide trench, plus two service hole boxes, so a new foul drain could be installed.
The real puzzle with this job was that it was a working office, full of people and daily business. To make sure we didn't cause any disruption, we had to do all our work after hours. This meant our team had to be on top of their game with careful planning and a super-efficient approach. We knew our state-of-the-art equipment and experienced crew were up to the challenge, and we were confident we could get the job done quickly and safely.
Working in a live office building threw up a few challenges for us. The first was the strict out-of-hours schedule, which meant our team had to be really organised and efficient to get everything done on time. It was all about making sure we didn't cause any disruption to the business's day-to-day operations.
Then there was the need for absolute precision. We had to create a trench with exact measurements and cut the service boxes cleanly, all without damaging the rest of the floor. Keeping dust and debris under control was a top priority, too, so the office would be clean and safe for everyone the next morning. Our approach had to be effective, but also very considerate of the working environment.
To get the job done right, our team chose the fantastic Cedima 3-phase electric floor saw. It's a powerful bit of kit, and with its 900mm diamond blade, it can cut down to 400mm deep, making the concrete floor a breeze to work with. Thanks to the saw's amazing precision, we were able to create that perfect 5m x 700mm trench with super-clean, straight edges, plus the two service hole boxes.
The best part about using an electric saw is that it keeps the noise and fumes to a minimum, which is a big plus when you're working inside and near other buildings. Our crew are experts with this specialist gear, so you can be sure the work is done safely and efficiently. We also made sure to have solid dust and slurry controls in place, keeping the site clean and safe all night long. A tidy site is a safer site, and that’s always top of our list.
The project was completed successfully within the agreed-upon timeframe. The 5m trench and the two service hole boxes were cut with exceptional precision, leaving the area ready for the new foul drain installation. Our after-hours work meant that Arteria's business operations were completely uninterrupted, and the office staff arrived to find a clean and tidy workspace.
This project for Arteria is a perfect example of our ability to provide specialist services in challenging environments while prioritising client needs and safety. Our use of advanced equipment and our commitment to meticulous planning ensured a flawless outcome, reinforcing our reputation for quality and reliability.
