We were recently called to Derby by Unbrako Precast Concrete to assist with a specialist job on one of their manufacturing sites. The task was to core a series of 152mm diameter holes directly over pre-cast 110mm holes, allowing for cables to be installed once the units were complete.
These concrete pits are being shipped to Germany as part of a wider project, so it was essential that the work was carried out at the manufacturer’s facility and completed to the highest level of precision. With such specific requirements, accuracy and consistency were key from start to finish.
Our team set up on site with our trusted core drilling rigs and high-quality diamond drill bits. The challenge was to align perfectly with the pre-cast 110mm holes and then open them out cleanly to 152mm. This demanded careful measuring, steady control, and a methodical approach to make sure every hole lined up exactly as required.
By using diamond core drilling, we were able to achieve a precise cut without causing vibration or damage to the surrounding concrete. The technique also ensured smooth edges, which is vital for the later installation of cables. Throughout the process, we kept slurry and debris under control to maintain a clean and safe working environment at the precast facility.
The project was completed successfully, with all holes drilled to the exact specifications Unbrako Precast Concrete required. The pits are now ready for export to Germany, complete with accurately aligned openings for the cable installation.
