We were contacted by Paradigm Developments to carry out diamond core drilling works at a site in York. The client required several holes to be formed for ducting, but had been unable to find a local company that could attend at such short notice.
Due to the building being a new build, and close to completion, it was important that the work was carried out cleanly and without the use of water. The requirement was to drill two 275mm diameter holes on one side of the building and two 225mm diameter holes on the other, all using dry drilling methods.
Our team attended the site with one day’s notice, arriving fully equipped to carry out the work using our specialist dry drilling equipment. Before starting, we marked out all hole positions in line with the client’s requirements to ensure correct placement for the ducting installation.
Dry drilling requires a controlled and steady approach to maintain accuracy while managing dust effectively. Using the appropriate equipment, we worked methodically through each opening, maintaining consistency across both the 275mm and 225mm holes.
Despite the short timeframe, the drilling was completed efficiently and in a controlled manner, allowing the work to be carried out without disruption to the surrounding finished areas.
Dry drilling is particularly effective in new build environments where internal areas are already finished or nearing completion. By removing the need for water, there is no risk of damage to floors, walls, or installed finishes.
This approach helps maintain a clean working area and avoids the additional time that can be required for protection and clean up when using wet drilling methods. It also allows work to be carried out in a more controlled way, which is important when other trades are working nearby or when areas are ready for handover.
All four core holes were completed to the required sizes and positions, providing accurate openings ready for the ducting installation.
